Young salmon up to two years old are known as PARR. PARR are juvenile salmon that have recently migrated from freshwater streams to the ocean. They are typically between one and two years old, and are easily identified by their dark spots and vertical bars on their sides. PARR feed on small aquatic insects and crustaceans, and they remain in the ocean for up to two years before returning to freshwater streams to spawn.
