The Argonne region was a major battleground during World War I. It was located in northeastern France and was the site of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which was the largest and bloodiest battle of the war. The battle lasted from September 26th to November 11th, 1918 and resulted in over 26, 000 American casualties. The Allied forces were ultimately successful in pushing back the German forces and ending the war.
