Nat Hentoff was an American writer, journalist, and music critic. He was known for his strong opinions on civil liberties and free speech, which he wrote about in his many books, articles, and essays. He was also a jazz critic and wrote extensively about the genre. He was a columnist for The Village Voice for over 50 years and was awarded the National Press Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.
