Writer Earl Derr Biggers was an American novelist and playwright best known for creating the fictional Chinese-American detective Charlie Chan. He wrote six novels featuring the character, as well as several short stories, plays, and films. Biggers also wrote several other novels, including Seven Keys to Baldpate and Love Insurance. He was a successful playwright, with his plays being produced on Broadway and in London's West End. Biggers was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1970.
