Clare Boothe Luce was an American writer, politician, U.S. Ambassador and public conservative figure. She was the first American woman to be appointed to a major ambassadorial post abroad. She wrote plays, magazine articles, and books, and was also a successful businesswoman. Her most famous play was The Women, which was made into a movie in 1939. She was also a strong advocate for women's rights and was a vocal opponent of communism.
