The World Chess Organization, or FIDE (Federation Internationale des Échecs), is the governing body of international chess competition. Founded in 1924, it is responsible for organizing and regulating international tournaments, as well as setting the rules of the game. FIDE also awards titles to players who have achieved a certain level of skill, such as Grandmaster and International Master. It is the official world chess organization, and its headquarters are located in Lausanne, Switzerland.
