Wisconsin's capital is Madison, a city of approximately 255, 000 people located in the south-central part of the state. It is the second most populous city in Wisconsin and the 82nd most populous city in the United States. Madison is the county seat of Dane County and the home of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The city was named after James Madison, the fourth President of the United States. Madison is known for its lakes, parks, and cultural attractions, and is often referred to as 'the City of Four Lakes'.
