Noah Webster was an American lexicographer, textbook author, English-language spelling reformer, political writer, editor, and prolific author. He is best known for his speller books and for writing the first American dictionary of the English language. Webster's dictionaries were the first to introduce American English spellings and definitions, setting the standard for American English. He is also credited with popularizing the use of dictionaries in the United States.
