Syrup sources are a variety of plants and trees that can be tapped for their sweet SAP. SAP from the SAP tree, also known as sorgo, is one source of syrup. Another is the AGAVE plant, which is native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. MAPLE trees are perhaps the most well-known source of syrup, with the SAP being boiled down to create MAPLE syrup. Treesap is another type of syrup made from the SAP of certain trees, such as birch and MAPLE. The sugar MAPLE tree is a particularly popular source of syrup, and its SAP is boiled down to make what is known as sugarmaple syrup.
