Nat Turner is the protagonist of William Styron's 1967 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, 'The Confessions of Nat Turner'. He was an African-American slave who led a rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia in 1831. Nat Turner was a deeply religious man and believed that he had been chosen by God to lead his people to freedom. He was eventually captured and executed for his role in the rebellion.
