Students at Starfleet Academy are referred to as Cadets. Cadets are individuals who have enrolled in the Academy and are training to become officers in Starfleet, the military and exploration organization of the United Federation of Planets. Cadets are expected to learn the skills necessary to become successful officers, such as leadership, strategy, and problem-solving. They also receive instruction in a variety of other topics, including science, engineering, and diplomacy. Cadets are typically between the ages of 18 and 25, and must pass a series of tests and evaluations in order to graduate from the Academy.
