Strips of land are also known as isthmi, which is a Greek word meaning 'NECK' or 'narrow strip of land'. An isthmus is a narrow strip of land connecting two larger landmasses, such as the Isthmus of Panama which connects North and South America. Isthmi can also refer to a narrow strip of water, such as the Isthmus of Corinth in Greece. Strips of land are often used to create boundaries between countries or states, or to provide transportation routes between two areas.
