Yentl is a 1983 musical romantic drama film directed, written, produced, and starring Barbra Streisand. It is based on the play of the same name by Leah Napolin and Isaac Bashevis Singer. The film follows a young Jewish woman who disguises herself as a man in order to study the Talmud and pursue her dreams. Yentl was the first movie musical directed, written, produced, and starring a woman. It was also the first Hollywood studio film with a score composed by a female composer.
