Sonora is a state located in northwestern Mexico, on the Gulf of California. It is bordered by the states of Chihuahua to the east, Sinaloa to the south, and Baja California to the west. Sonora has an area of about 181, 000 square kilometers and a population of over 2.8 million people. The capital of Sonora is Hermosillo. Sonora is known for its desert landscapes, beaches, and diverse wildlife. It is also home to several important archaeological sites, including the ruins of Paquime.
