Iowa is a state in the Midwestern United States that was named after the Iowa tribe, a Siouan-speaking Native American people. The name Iowa is an anglicized version of the tribe's name Ayuhwa. The Iowa tribe originally lived in what is now the state of Iowa and parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Missouri. The Iowa tribe was part of the larger Sioux Nation, which included several other tribes such as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota.
