Stan Getz was an American jazz saxophonist who was known for his smooth and lyrical playing style. He was a major influence on the development of cool jazz in the 1950s and 1960s. Getz was one of the most recorded jazz musicians of all time, with over 100 albums to his name. He is best remembered for his hit single 'The Girl from Ipanema' which became a worldwide hit in 1964. Getz was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 1985.
