Some Japanese-Americans are divided into four generations: Nisei, Issei, Niseis, and Sansei. Nisei are the second generation of Japanese-Americans, born in the United States to at least one parent who immigrated from Japan. Issei are the first generation of Japanese-Americans, born in Japan and immigrating to the United States. Niseis are the third generation of Japanese-Americans, born in the United States to two Nisei parents. Sansei are the fourth generation of Japanese-Americans, born in the United States to two Nisei parents.
