A POSEUR is a person who pretends to be someone they are not in order to impress others, while a pseud is someone who puts on an air of superiority. A socially pretentious person is someone who acts in a way that is intended to make them appear more important or sophisticated than they actually are. They may do this by using big words, wearing expensive clothes, or talking about topics they don't understand.
