Eric Heiden is an American former speed skater who won five gold medals at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. He is the most decorated American athlete in Olympic history and is considered one of the greatest speed skaters of all time. Heiden was also a successful cyclist, winning the US Professional Cycling Championship in 1985. Heiden is known as 'Skater Heiden' due to his success in speed skating.
