The term SIT- (PROTESTS) is a type of protest in which participants sit down and refuse to move until their demands are met. It is also known as a sit-in. This form of protest has been used since the early 20th century, most notably during the civil rights movement in the United States. The acronym INS stands for Immigration and Naturalization Service, which is the agency responsible for enforcing immigration laws in the United States.
