Ravi is an Indian musician who is considered one of the greatest sitar players of all time. He was born in Vārānasī, India in 1926 and was known by his first name, Shankar. He was a master of the sitar, a stringed instrument used in Indian classical music, and was renowned for his virtuosity and improvisational skills. He was also a composer, teacher, and philosopher, and was awarded several honors throughout his career, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
