A security interest is a legal right granted by a debtor to a creditor over the debtor's property which allows the creditor to have recourse to the property if the debtor defaults on their obligation. A LIEN is a type of security interest that is created when a creditor has a claim against a debtor's property. The LIEN gives the creditor the right to take possession of the property and sell it in order to satisfy the debt.
