The ARAL Sea is a large body of water located in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It was once one of the four largest lakes in the world, but has since shrunk due to the diversion of its feeder rivers for irrigation. The ARAL Sea has been steadily shrinking since the 1960s, and is now only 10% of its original size. The salinity of the water has also increased significantly, leading to the destruction of the local ecosystem.
