Salamanders are a type of amphibian that belong to the order Caudata. They are closely related to NEWTS, efts, olms, and TRITONS. NEWTS are small aquatic salamanders that typically have bright colors and live in ponds or streams. Efts are juvenile NEWTS that live on land. Olms are cave-dwelling salamanders that are blind and have long, slender bodies. TRITONS are large aquatic salamanders that have a tail fin and can grow up to two feet in length. All of these animals are part of the salamander family and share many of the same characteristics.
