Anselm was a medieval Catholic saint who founded Scholasticism, a philosophical and theological system of thought that dominated Western Christianity in the Middle Ages. He was born in 1033 in Aosta, Italy, and was known for his works on the existence of God and the nature of faith. He is also remembered for his famous 'ontological argument' for the existence of God. Anselm was canonized in 1494 by Pope Alexander VI.
