The South African Mongoose, also known as the MEERKAT, is a small mammal native to southern Africa. It is a member of the mongoose family and is easily recognizable by its long body and tail, pointed snout, and small ears. The MEERKAT is a social animal, living in large groups of up to 30 individuals. They are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day, and feed on insects, small reptiles, and other small animals. They are also known for their sentry behavior, with one or more members of the group standing guard while the others forage for food.
