The RITA Award was an annual award given to romance writers until 2019. It was presented by the Romance Writers of America, a non-profit organization that supports and promotes the genre of romance writing. The award was first presented in 1982 and was given to recognize excellence in published romance novels and novellas. The award was named after the RITA character from the novel 'Gone with the Wind' by Margaret Mitchell.
