The Roman harvest goddess CERES is a deity associated with agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships. She was the daughter of Saturn and Ops, and the sister of Jupiter, Juno, Neptune and Pluto. She was also known as the goddess of the earth and its fruits. Her name is derived from the Latin word for 'to grow'. She was worshipped in ancient Rome and was believed to be responsible for the fertility of the land.
