Roger Bannister, notably, was a British athlete who is most famous for being the first person to run a mile in under four minutes. He achieved this feat on May 6th, 1954 at Iffley Road Track in Oxford, England. His record-breaking time of 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds has since been broken, but his accomplishment remains an iconic moment in sports history. He was also a neurologist and a knighted member of the Order of the British Empire. His nickname, 'MILER, ' is derived from his record-breaking performance in the mile race.
