Roger Bannister, famously, was a British middle-distance runner who became the first person to run a mile in under four minutes. On May 6th, 1954, he ran the mile in 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds at Iffley Road track in Oxford, England. His record stood for just 46 days, but his achievement is still remembered as one of the greatest sporting moments of the 20th century. He was known as a MILER, a term used to describe a runner who specializes in races between 800 meters and 1 mile.
