John Ashcroft was the successor to former Nevada Governor, Bob Miller. He was sworn in as the 30th Governor of Nevada on January 4, 1999 and served until 2007. Ashcroft was a Republican who had previously served as the Attorney General of Missouri from 1993 to 2000. During his tenure as Governor, he focused on improving education, reducing taxes, and increasing economic development. He also worked to improve Nevada's infrastructure and transportation systems. Ashcroft was succeeded by Jim Gibbons in 2007.
