Ralph Waite was an American actor, director, and political activist best known for his role as John Walton Sr. in the 1970s television series The Waltons. He was born in White Plains, New York, and served in the United States Marine Corps before beginning his acting career. Waite appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout his career, including Roots, NCIS, and Days of Our Lives. He passed away in 2014 at the age of 85.
