Persistence is a quality that involves a combination of many different traits. PURPOSE is the goal or aim of an action, and can be described as having a STEADFASTNESS, FIRMNESS, and CONFIDENCE. DILIGENCE is the quality of being hardworking and careful, and RESOLUTION is the act of making a decision and having the RESOLVE to carry it out. PATIENCE is the ability to wait calmly and without complaint, and ENDURANCE is the strength to continue despite difficulty. STAMINA is the physical or mental energy needed to sustain effort, and DETERMINATION is the quality of being resolute and unwavering. EARNESTNESS is the quality of being sincere and serious, CONSTANCY is the quality of being unchanging, PERSEVERANCE is the quality of continuing despite obstacles, and TENACITY is the quality of being persistent and unyielding. All of these qualities together make up the term persistence.
