Marilyn Horne was an American opera star who had a career spanning over five decades. She was known for her powerful mezzo-soprano voice and her ability to sing a wide range of roles. She was the first African-American woman to become a leading singer at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She was also the recipient of numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards and the National Medal of Arts.
