An old German coin is a term used to describe three different coins: Thaler (6 letters), Pfennig (7 letters), and Taler (5 letters). The Thaler was a silver coin first minted in the 16th century, and was widely used throughout Europe until the 19th century. The Pfennig was a smaller denomination of the Thaler, and was made of copper or bronze. The Taler was a variant of the Thaler, and was also made of silver. All three coins were used as currency in Germany until the introduction of the Euro in 2002.
