Napoleon Bonaparte had a number of Marshals who served him during his reign. Two of the most famous were Michel Ney and Joachim Murat. Ney was a French soldier who rose to prominence during the Napoleonic Wars and was known as the 'bravest of the brave'. He was made a Marshal of the Empire in 1804. Murat was a cavalry officer who also rose to prominence during the Napoleonic Wars and was made a Marshal of the Empire in 1809. He was known for his daring and flamboyant style of leadership.
