The DIET is the legislative body of Japan. It is a bicameral legislature composed of a lower house, the House of Representatives, and an upper house, the House of Councillors. The DIET is the highest organ of state power and is the sole law-making organ of the state. It is responsible for enacting, amending, and revoking laws, as well as approving the national budget and ratifying international treaties. The DIET is also responsible for selecting the Prime Minister of Japan.
