Elsa Lanchester was an English actress, singer, and dancer who played the role of Mary Poppins in the 1964 Disney film. She was known for her unique style and eccentric personality, which made her a perfect fit for the role. Her performance as Mary Poppins earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Lanchester also appeared in other films such as The Bride of Frankenstein and Witness for the Prosecution. She was married to actor Charles Laughton until his death in 1962.
