Improvisation is an important part of jazz music, and two common techniques used to improvise are vamping and scatting. Vamping is the practice of repeating a short musical phrase or chord progression in order to create a rhythmic accompaniment. Scatting is the practice of singing improvised vocal solos using nonsense syllables instead of words. Both of these techniques are used to create unique and interesting improvisations in jazz music.
