Mary Cassatt was an American Impressionist painter who was born in Pennsylvania in 1844. She is best known for her paintings of mothers and children, which often depicted the intimate bond between them. She was a member of the group of Impressionist painters known as the 'Independents' and was the only American to exhibit with them. Her work has been exhibited in many major museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
