Hydroxide solutions, also known as lyes, are aqueous solutions containing an excess of hydroxide ions. They are highly alkaline and corrosive, and can be used for a variety of industrial and domestic applications. Commonly used lyes include sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH).
