Lena Horne was an American singer, dancer, actress, and civil rights activist. She was one of the first African-American women to be signed to a long-term contract with a major Hollywood studio. She is best known for her signature song 'Stormy Weather' and her performance in the 1943 film of the same name. She also starred in several other films, including Cabin in the Sky and The Wiz. She was an active participant in the Civil Rights Movement and was awarded the Spingarn Medal in 1989 for her contributions to the movement.
