Gordie Howe was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1946 to 1971. He is often referred to as 'Mr. Hockey' and is considered one of the greatest players of all time. Howe's nickname, 'Mr. Hockey', was given to him by the press in reference to his skill and longevity in the sport. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972 and was the first player to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup four times.
