Fats Hines was an American jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. He was born in 1908 in Louisville, Kentucky and is best known for his work with Louis Armstrong. He was a major influence on the development of jazz piano and was one of the first to use the Hammond organ in jazz. He also wrote many popular songs, including 'Basin Street Blues' and 'Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans'. He died in 1983.
