Herbert Hoover, for one, was an American politician and the 31st President of the United States from 1929 to 1933. He was born in West Branch, Iowa, and was a professional mining engineer before becoming involved in politics. He is often remembered for his response to the Great Depression, which included the implementation of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation and the Emergency Relief and Construction Act. He was also the first president to be born west of the Mississippi River.
