Hearing-impaired is a term used to describe individuals who have some degree of hearing loss, but not enough to be considered DEAF. The term DEAF, which is a 4 letter word, is often used to refer to those who are completely unable to hear. Hearing-impaired individuals may have difficulty understanding speech or other sounds, but can still hear some sound. They may also use hearing aids or other assistive devices to help them communicate.
