A hauberk is a type of ARMOR consisting of a long shirt or TUNIC made of chain mail. It is also known as a habergeon, which is a term derived from the Old French word for 'little coat'. The hauberk was typically worn by soldiers in the Middle Ages and was designed to protect the wearer from swords and other weapons. It was usually made of interlocking metal rings and could be worn over other pieces of ARMOR, such as a breastplate.
