The capital of Guam, prior to its renaming in 1998, was Agana. Agana is a municipality located on the western shore of the United States territory of Guam. It is the oldest city on the island and served as the capital of Guam from 1668 until World War II. During the war, the Japanese occupied the city and renamed it 'Agana Shinto'. After the war, the city was returned to its original name of Agana.
