Admiral Richard E. Byrd was the founder of Little America, an Antarctic exploration base established in 1929. He was an American naval officer and explorer who made several expeditions to the Antarctic region during his career. He was also the first person to fly over both the North and South Poles. Byrd's expeditions were instrumental in the mapping of the Antarctic continent and the discovery of new landmasses.
