Clare Boothe Luce was the founder of Fortune magazine. She was an American author, politician, U.S. Ambassador and public conservative figure. Luce was the first woman appointed to a major ambassadorial post abroad by a U.S. president. She was also the first American woman to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
